WALTER  VAN BEIRENDONCK. A Fetish for Beauty,
W.&L.T., Summer 1998. Mood #3: Birds from Outer Space:
40 ballroom dancers, including 20 girls in dazzling
evening dresses and classy hairdos, green-red masks and
green rubber reptile gloves.
WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK: "A show is in the end a very important occasion. For a brief moment it gives you power over space and time. It gives you a number of opportunities which are not present in other media or in other forms of presentation. I find preparing a show very pleasant work. It is an opportunity to work out and realise my fantasies in greater detail. Fortunately I often get the chance to work on a large budget, so that I can enjoy the medium to the full." WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK. believe, W.&L.T., Winter 1998-99. With the help of a flashlight, theaudience has entered a completely darkened hall. The hall is kept 'nude' except for one wall covered by a yellow fluorescent curtain. Between the benches runs an electric blue catwalk, almost 1 mile long, lit by pure white light. During the finale, the curtain opens to reveal a fairytale world with elves staring down at the audience. Photo: Corina Lecca
